The Liberty of Southwark

The Liberty of Southwark is an exciting new office-led development in the vibrant Bankside community, brought to you in partnership with Landsec and Places for London. Located in the heart of London's Zone 1, this development will deliver 190,000 sq ft of much-needed, best-in-class workspace designed for modern businesses. A stone's throw from London Bridge Station and Borough Market, this project breathes new life into an underutilised site, combining sustainable, well-connected workplaces with a unique community hub that celebrates the area’s fascinating Roman history. The development also includes the careful restoration of the heritage building at 15 Southwark Street, dating from the 1860s and is expected to create over 1,850 new jobs once complete.

Key Features

  • Sustainability & Wellness: The new 190,000 sq ft office building is targeting the highest level of sustainability and wellness credentials, including BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Platinum.
  • A Community Hub: At the heart of the development will be a cultural centre open to everyone and designed to showcase a collection of exceptional Roman items unearthed at the site
  • Public Realm Improvements: The project will deliver new pedestrian routes, a community garden and play space, and new cycle facilities, helping to reinvigorate the local area.

Preserving London’s History

During construction, a series of astonishing Roman finds were unearthed, including the most intact Roman mausoleum ever to be discovered in Britain and stunning Roman mosaics. Rather than moving them, these incredible discoveries are being carefully embedded into the future space of the development, creating a unique community hub where the public can learn about Southwark’s rich history.
